so my monitor goes to 1280X1024, but Arch is only showing 1024x784 (or whatever the step down of that res is).
I have a integrated Intel G965 video card. I installed the xf86-video-intel module, but it runs the vesa drivers.

Have you set supported HorizSync and VertRefresh rates in xorg.conf file?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

did you tell it to use i810 driver in xorg.conf?
