Hi and Welcome !
Boot up in Single User Mode and execute passwd command to set new root password.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

Boot into runlevel 1.
you will direct root access.

when u get grub menu hit "e"
put "single" on line like this
e.g.kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/166e636f-36ad-4027-9531-a75e3924b545 ro
Hit enter then hit "b"kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/166e636f-36ad-4027-9531-a75e3924b545 ro single
