    Are you typing start X like you did in your question?

    The command I use is startx without space and no caps.

    vboxvideo_dri.so is the virtualbox graphics module required for hardware acceleration. I wouldn't think this would be fatal to starting X at all. But I've never run Arch in a virtual machine.

    1) Have you installed the Virtualbox Guest additions? (And have it all set up?)

    2) You need to make the following symlink
    Code:
    ln -s /usr/lib/VBoxOGL.so /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/vboxvideo_dri.so
    3) Rumor has it /dev/vbox* files are created with the wrong permissions. The fix is to add this line to /lib/udev/rules.d/60-virtualbox-ose-additions.rules

    Code:
    KERNEL=="vboxuser", NAME="vboxuser", OWNER="root", MODE="0666"
