    BCM4328 keeps losing connection


    Hey everybody,

    I've posted this issue on the Arch-Linux forums and didn't get any reply:

    Like the topic title says, I'm having issues with the BCM4328 wireless card on my MacBook and Arch Linux. What I've basically done is simply following the Wiki for this card on the Arch Linux website and everything went more or less OK. I've had an issue with getting netcfg to connect properly but in the end I resolved that too.

    There's just this one thing nobody seems to have a clue about and its a very strange issue where my connection seems to be lost (no traffic possible after 5-10 mins of connectivity) while running "iwconfig" shows I'm still connected to my local network. In the link I've posted above you can find the netcfg config file I use for my connection and the "iwconfig" output when my connection seems to be lost. Nothing is wrong with my WPA secured network since OSX connects flawlessly, and stays connected.

    Basically, this problem is driving me nuts since it happens randomly every ~5-10 minutes now. It also seems that when I connect the first time at boot (using net-auto-wireless) the connection lasts longer and everytime I connect after that it seems like it drops sooner. But this could als be coincidence.

    The bottom line, I have absolutely no idea what to do anymore and obviously like this I can't use wireless and hence I'm forced to remove Arch. Which would be a real shame since I'm using it on my desktop for over a year now, so I would appreciate any help.

    I can only guess it's an issue with the Broadcom wl driver.

    When the problem happens, look for pertinent errors messages in the output of
    Code:
    dmesg
    Hopefully something enlightening there. Or post the output. Can't guarantee we'll have a clue, but it's a place to start.

    Do you have networkmanager installed? I'm using kde and networkmanager in arch and have no problems with my wireless connection.

    I think only the last few lines are interesting, this ACPI line seems to be popping everytime the problem happens and I have no idea what "no IPv6 routers present" means, but this doesn't seem to cause any problems since its also present when I am connected to my network.

    Also I don't think using NetworkManager will solve anything, I've used wicd and the problem persisted in a similar fashion. Besides I don't like NetworkManager since I'm using a Compiz Fusion as a stand-alone WM and hate to be pulling gnome-dependencies just to connect to a network. And I have tried it but NetworkManager wouldn't save my passwords.

    EDIT: ACPI is obviously unrelated I guess, since it happened again and it didn't show up in the log. However I'm not sure about the router thing yet...

    Try disabling IPV6

    Add the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

    # disable autoload of ipv6
    alias net-pf-10 off

    In the meanwhile I noticed this popping up in the dmesg output when my connection drops and I reconnected:
    Code:
    ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready
    Maybe this says something too?

    Whats your /etc/rc.conf look like under

    DAEMONS=(???????)
