How to mount a CD_ROM on the guest SUSE, to install VMware tools?

    Hi,

I'm trying to install VMware tools via vSphere Client, but I get message there's no CD-ROM configured on VM guest.

So I logged into my guest SUSE VM and did as below:

    added:

    /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 to /etc/fstab.

    Before adding above line:

    #mkdir mnt/cdrom
    #mkdir dev/cdrom
    #mkdir media/cdrom

    When I execute the command:

    mount -t iso9660 -o ro /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
mount: /dev/cdrom is not a block device

    /etc/fstab:

    fstab.jpg

    Thanks,

I can't see the images... Never can for some reason.

I could be way off base... I haven't used VMWare in years & years. Every company I work at now we run balls to the walls on bare metal.

However, don't you need to add the virtual device to the instance first through VMWare before it will read it as an actual block device? Otherwise isn't it just a device file pointing to non-existent hardware?
