Because I am using prepaid broadband I am wondering how many megs or gig's an average size Arch install will consume after installing the iso.
I would also be curious roughly how many megs or gigs the average Arch system will consume to maintain during the month.
In both questions I'm just looking for an average ballpark figure.
Well, I don't actually run Arch.
But I do have a Slackware installation that I built up from a fairly minimal base... and I've done the same with CRUX.
So if you actually build your system, adding in all your apps, you'll likely be looking at about 4 to 8 GB download. (Depends on your application choices.)
Updates won't take much at all... a few megs here and there. Depending on your broadband limit, you may want to monitor it for a little while.

I've been running Arch for 7 or 8 years now with various setups, and for me it ranges from about 1.2 GB to about 3.0 GB, depending on what all I've installed. I feel pretty sure that is is lower than the average install, though.
For me:-
Last desktop install January 2009
Upgrade to earliest kernel I have in pacman cache archive July 2009
Total pacman archive 19G
I may not have backed up quite everything downloaded ... but assuming I have (think I have most of it) then
I have downloaded about 0.32G per month ignoring additional overhead ...
If I had to total up downloads then I'd go with Mint Debian Edition and switch to the Debian Stable repositories ...
and use available download I had to directly pay for on things other than package updates ;)
