Lost tool displays

My GIMP screen is full-screen with tool icons displayed along the top. I cannot get back to the compact vertical display I had at first. How do I get it back?

Probably the easiest thing to do would be to make sure Gimp is closed, then rename your hidden .gimp-2.x folder in your /home/username directory, then restart Gimp. That should rebuild all the Gimp folders and files giving you a fresh start.

You can then retrieve anything you need from the renamed folder before deleting it.

This was exactly what I was looking for too. Thanks for the explanation.
