I'd say Gentoo...Just because it can be optimized for pretty much anything

hehe, im guessing linux version of maya is freakin' expensive.
i got my hands on a version of it back in the days of suprnova.org, before the MPAA shut it down for copyright violations and so on, Ok its not something to be proud, but i just wanted to try maya on linux (im not even a maya user) I stick to learning to use blender -- that thing has got a future!

I beleive there's also a version for solaris.

Let me just say that solaris is a excellent os, and is highly underestimated, the only problem it's got which unfortuantley what puts it off people, is the dhcp config.

Well is there no "personal learning edition" for Linux then....

I got Maya working on Mandriva. works fine.
With the irix theme on I imagine using an Octane...hmmmm

No not solaris....why? for the sake of god..
Solaris is sun's *.nix system. SGI has it's own IRIX.

Linux is supported since it's open source and has a large userbase.
Solaris has the same small userbase as IRIX.

Maya is for:

MAC OS X
IRIX
WINDOWS
LINUX (officially RED HAT supported distro)

Personally i got maya also runnig without fuss on:

- SuSE
- Mandriva

what version of suse
I currently use ubuntu I am wondering what version of SUSE and if anyone has gotteng it to work on a debian base distro.
