hey guys,

i'm rekatively new to linux and am not familar with the gimp image manupulation program. i'm trying to design some icons of my own andsome cool backgrounds and 'd lke to give it that glossy kde appearence.

i have no idea how to do this, so if anyone knows of any good tutorial site on the subject (or has the patience to teach me :P), please drop a line

oh just one more thing in regard to that itext tutorial:

when i get to the part where i have to apply the linghting effects forng the filters menu, is is deactivated and i cant use it. do i need a plugin to use this filter? or am i selecting the black layer wrong?

mmmh, quite frankly i don't know what to say.
Lighting Effects should be included in the original build of gimp so maybe you're indeed trying to use it with the wrong layer (or no layer) selected.

re-check the whole procedure and pay attention to what is (and, according to the tutorial, must be) selected when you try to apply the effect.
