(but I shouldn't argue, I do a fair bit of that as well!)
here's my tip: if you are using redhat, download the latest .rpm from
www.gimp.org. if that won't install, or you can't start gimp up,
you will probably get a message about missing dependencies some way or another.
Make a note of which these dependencies are,
then google around until you find an rpm for them
Install them, try gimp again, and if everything fails,
post back here (preferably with a detailed description of what went wrong,
+ any error messages)
