Question Mural size images

I have a picture that I would like to use to cover a wall in my basement. I was hoping to do expand it up to about 40+ sheets of paper.

To give you an idea of what I'm looking to do, there is a program called "Rasterbator" (a google search will bring you right to it) that does exactly what I'm looking to do. From what I understand, It can be used in Linux. But in order to do this, I would have to install MONO, do some compiling(maybe)? Install some patches and them some overall tweaking to get it to work correctly. Being fairly new to Linux I'm not [that] confidant in my abilities to accomplish this. If there is another easily installable program or if GIMP will do this please let me know.

Thanks
