Scanning a single page is no problem but what happens when you need to scan a 300 page document and save it as a single pdf?

To create a multipage PDF directly from the scanner use xsane XSane - News it works like a charm. I just scanned a multipage document from my Brother MFC-420CN over my wireless network it took only a few seconds and produced a great result.

Try it, I think you may have great results.

Could you please tell me the procedure you followed ?

Which release of xsane are you running, is it 0.994 which is the latest or 0.991 which is the latest in the Ubuntu repositories?

I am using xsane v0.991 as installed by standard Ubuntu.
From the main window select multipage
that pops up a multipage window
In that window select doc type PDF
You can also name your project from there.
Save the project
Back in the main window select the document feeder type, I used automatic document feeder.
click scan
it will feed the sheets and scan them into separate pages that show up in the multipage window.
When it's done, save the project again and presto.... there they are

Well that is reasonably brilliant ..... thank you for the details. I just tried it out and of course it works

I guess the main point here is that if you do not have an automatic document feeder then it is necessary to set the number of pages to 1 and then press scan when each page is ready. But I can do that
