Digital Domain is an Academy award winning visual effects studio located just blocks from the beach in Venice, CA. Since 1993, we have been at the pinnacle of visual effects working on such films as "Apollo 13", "Titanic", "I, Robot", "Day After Tomorrow" and "Flags of Our Fathers".
Position Summary:
As a member of the Systems team, the Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for researching, developing and architecting new systems/solutions to support changing business requirements and infrastructure as technology changes and capacity needs grow. This position will also support a 24/7 infrastructure of 700+ dual-boot, Intel-based Linux/XP servers, workstations, rendering farms and backup systems using NetApp Filers in a global namespace, and assure their availability.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing all local and wide area network connections, corporate servers, associated software, and communication links.
• Assess system/network usage and recommend and implement policies on system use and services using 3rd party and custom tools.
• Monitors system and firewall alerts, troubleshoots software and connectivity issues.
• Creates and updates workstation hard drive images.
• Evaluates new software against workstation images.
• Maintains and modifies various back end scripts to support business processes.
• Documents and maintains installation and configuration procedures and system standards.
• Mentor Jr. level systems engineering personnal.
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
• Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering, computer science or equivalent experience required.
• Must be a enthusiastic self starter who works well in a team environment.
• Ability to multitask while managing and prioritizing multiple projects required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Strong interpersonal skills required.
• Experience designing and setting up large Linux-based render farms using PXE or equivalent for OS distribution required.
• Extensive Linux troubleshooting skills including networking and kernel level tweaking skills.
• Extensive experience writing scripts (Perl and shell) to help automate, distribute and monitor the health of workstations and servers is required.
• Excellent understanding of NetApp Server administration of NFS and CIFS using wide links and global name spaces.
• Ability to quickly assess complex problems and make critical decisions to resolve them.
• Experience in a VFX production environment preferred.
• Linux and Microsoft Certifications a plus.
• Knowledge of Python a plus.
• Experience with MySQL and php a plus.
