This is a bit of an informal request, that I'll let you know now does not translate to any monetary reward.


I'm looking for someone with experience in C/C++ programming, especially in the Linux environment. I can't offer compensation, but I can offer my services as a programmer to whatever coding needs you may have as part of the training. This position should be filled by people that genuinely wish to help mentor me, and not those just seeking benefits. I believe that anyone would be discerning enough to realize that trying to make a code lackey out of an inexperienced programmer would be a bad idea anyway.

I don't have a lot of experience in C, I've been studying basic ISO C and K&R for the past three or four years off and on. I tend to only write extremely simple programs that accomplish a rather odd tasks that would normally be done by obscure commands and options. However, lately I wrote my first program that had any real significant function and complexity, and I've been wanting to find a way to branch into it further. As for what specifically I would like to learn, at this point I would just like to examine more practical aspects of the language. That program was the first time I actually used any type of file management, and I felt like modifying it to include recursion of directories instead of just one file at a time, but I have not really figured out a good way to do that, and have only just found out which libraries I can use to do it.. For an example of some things I've wanted to learn, I wanted to create a buffer I could store the stdin input into so that I could ask for a text-key from a prompt in the program instead of on the command line.

A big lack of information comes from not knowing which libraries are useful for doing what. For example, I'd like to make a rudimentary port scanner simply to explore the libraries involved with TCP/IP and networking.

In any case, I understand there may not be a lot of people interested in something like this, so I'll just leave it up, and if anyone is interested, give me a PM.
