No, I've not used Red Hat in about 4 years, so I guess I don't like it best. I did like it back when I used it, though.Do you like RH Best?oz

I suppose Red Hat or one of its derivatives will always be on at least one box close by... Right now I have three boxes running some form of it. I have FC1 (soon to be Ubuntu), CentOS (soon to be BLAG) and BLAG based on FC7. I've used every version since RH6 and have always had a special place in my heart for RH8. I think I have a love hate relationship with it. It has really nice and consistent utilities, but in some cases those utilities can make things more difficult than they should be. I've always preferred Gnome over KDE so that's also a plus... And yeah... the Red Hat logo is just plain cool.

Do I like it best? No. Standing just ahead of it in my list of preferences are Slackware, Crux and Ubuntu.

I agree with ozar and Dapper Dan, RH used to be my favorite and I have tried every version since 5.2, I just hardly use it anymore but I still have it installed. It's like my security blanket I suppose. Gentoo is my new Favorite, and I hope someone will bury me with the latest version of Knoppix when I reach the end of my journey!

Just to add to what I posted above... I'd definitely consider Red Hat (or CentOS) for a production server, but it's unlikely that I'd want it for a desktop box.

I used RH first with RH9, and OpenOffice didn't work at all. Made it annoying for a desktop box (I was a new user at the time, and had no idea how to fix it). As for Fedora, I find yum to be one of the most difficult package managers I've ever worked with, and the package manager is a huge part of the distribution for me.
I've never run a production server, but I can definitely say I am not a huge RH fan.DISTRO=Arch

Ozar, just out of curiosity what is it about RH that would make you not want it as a "desktop" box?

One thing is I wouldn't want to pay for it, and the free versions are too old, in my opinion. Otherwise, I just feel like it's more server oriented than desktop oriented. I read somewhere that they are considering becoming more desktop oriented, though. Either way, I've not used Red Hat in a number of years and have no desire at this point to try it again.

I'd like to say it a bit different.... I like RH based distributions

Red Hat is nice, but a bit too expensive for me.
