    linux development goals

    i have this idea:

Some developer should begin a development goal inventory for Linux. it should feature every program for windows and mac and feature cross comparisons with every linux program that offers the same features. this list should compare everything, every feature that is needed in linux. then this list should be sent out to all the linux software engineers so that there can be a linux equivalent package for every competing product of windows and mac.

but it's just an idea. who knows, maybe there is such a list and maybe there already is project by project a product that matches windows and mac.

Many of these lists already exist:

Linux software equivalent to Windows software - LQWiki
The Linux Alternative Project - linuxalt.com
The table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux. (Official site of the table)
    etc.

Software for most tasks is available under Linux. Our goal is not to provide a free mirror of Windows, but rather a completely separate operating system, that works completely differently. We may not have direct analogues to programs, or programs that work identically. But generally, if you need to do something, there will be a Linux program that does it.
