All Hail Mepis

Hi Y'all...

This is kinda long but...

First, for those of you that are still hitting little glitches
making things run with Mepis 6.5 let me just say DON'T
GIVE UP!!! There is hope.....

I have used other Linux distros off and on and all the while
still maintaining my Windows XP. Why the XP? Well, let's face
it... No matter how much we dislike MS and their corporate
bull crap, we just can't shake the fact that we have favorite
games and such that you just can't get for Linux AND you
cannot run using WINE. Reason i say this is, after all, more
likely than not, MOST of us got Mepis to get weaned from
Windows... True? That being said...

2 or 3 months ago i installed PCLinuxOS and thought it was
just about better than the invent of sliced bread. It is a very
good Linux BUT, there were the glitches in their ''FINAL RELEASE''
that i just never could resolve on this old system. Then i read
about MEPIS. At first i thought what the sam hill is a Mepis? Well,
i thought what the heck and installed it anyway. My verdict is:
Mepis IS the sliced bread WITH melted butter all over it!

Newbies' Oldbies or Whateverbies...
I am running a crummy old Emachines E-Tower like an e333 or
somthin' like that with a Celeron processor and everything
like graphics and sound etc 'ONBOARD'. I hit a few little glitches
along the way but check this out... So far i have the items listed
below, installed and running perfectly:

Lampp (Apache Xampp) (and it starts at boot).
Hamachi (and ghamachi)(which also autostarts at boot).
Internet Explorer 6 (argh) under wine (why? cause i can).
Been connecting FINE to wifes Vista machine via Samba.
But the reason i'm saying all of this is that i had the glitches
but by searching these supportive forums i found solutions to
each and every one of them.

NOTE: I am not an oldtimer LINUXer and being a fairly new
Linux user i thought it pretty amazing that with Mepis 6.5
i had everything going in '3' days!!! EVERYTHING!!!
By the way, did i mention that this thing is dual booting
via Grub with Mepis 6,5 and Windows XP?

Finally a Linux that really does (well almost) work out of the box!
Thanks Mepis Team!!!!!!

Dave

Wink Why,...

I agree with you, but then... again, I hope someday they'll fix locale issues and Mepis shall be going to be one of the best distros. Being not an English, I faced some annoying things. I still use it for rescuing missions.
