My point exactly!

What's a linux... heheh, yes. I know what you mean Well, it's a nice side effect. Also, I know a lot of people who don't feel like switching because of the hardware issues they hear about. Still, it wasn't my intend to get free Linux advertising. As I said, that's a nice side effect

Very good point! That is what they said, by the way. That they can't give that info because they can't give full support. They haven't looked into t either, for that matter.

But I don't see the real trouble of testing a box on Gnu/Linux. If I'd get my hands on one, I'd be done in maybe half an hour or so. Someone doing this routinely could even do it a lot faster.
I mean. I don't know all the 3D and wireless cards by heart, but once you're more into that subject you can just tell by the version numbers. I don't have an 3D card, I want a 3D card. And that's a lot of difference. I've never had to install a Nvidia driver. I've read about issues with those drivers. But I can't discriminate by experience if it's a hardware failure, an unsupported card, a driver issue, a kernel issue, human error (<= my main reason for defects ) or what have you.
(I lie here of course, I've ran Ubuntu on several computers with 3D capability, and they all ran automagically, but that doesn't change my point)

Well, my last letter to them explained this to them. How a few simple tests on their part could persuade a lot of potential buyers. It's easier to make a good argument in Dutch though, I tried to translate it for you but I can never get the tone of voice across in English. The English translation sounded dull, and even a bit hostile. Hm... I'd better stick to Dutch when I'm in diplomacy mode... I don't think I'm ever gonna hear from them again though.

On a related note. I've bought my printer at a store that charged € 25,- more for it than one of those price-fighters. The difference was, the store I went to did not let me out before they where 100% certain that particular model did everything I expected of it. It works like a charm, and to this day (about 20 distro hopping experiences later) I still think it installs fast and easy and reliably. I fail to understand why the manufacturer did not put an 1x1cm logo on it.

PS: If you've read this far I owe you an apology for the length of my post. Sorry 'bout that
