New to linux and linux forums =)

I'm not sure why I waited so long, but I decided I wanted to give linux a serious try. Long time Windows user, hoping to make the switch over to linux (at least on my laptop).

Have a feeling I'll be asking alot of first timer questions and hopefully will be able to give back in the future when I learn more about this OS.

Hiya fev and Welcome to the forums.
Feeling half retarded isn't a bad thing, it just means you get to learn new things. Just like when you started using computers for the first time.

It is like starting from square one, isn't it? It's a different system. Different options, different ways to do things, different logic behind it. Don't worry though, it's a bit like moving to another neighborhood. All it takes is a little reading, a little looking around. Settle in and have a friendly chat with your new neighbors
