    linux distributions to use

    Hi,

I am actually trying to set up a vm environment but server 1.0.2 needs a host. I dont want to use windows because the resources it consumes. But what version of linux would you recommend to use that is low on resources. I dont mind it being pure command line as I know the basics but if there was a tut available it would make it much easier.

    any tips are welcome.

    Thanks
    Adam

Do a search for distros on this forum, there should be tons of threads similar to this. I'd recommend CentOS or Ubuntu Server.
    I praise Webmin and PuTTy!

the other versions of vmware have their own host built in based on Linux you would be better off using.

    Hi,

Thanks, im actually looking for the free version of server just for a test but I have installed debian core system with the web server add-ons.

Seems pretty good! and doesn't look like it has put much on there.

Are there any major differences in ubuntu or centos5.

    Thanks

    My suggestions:

See the "What about old computers?" section. It talks about some popular small-footprint distributions.
