I feel less enthusiastic now that I've read a review which basically said, 'It's okay, but not that great really.'

I would like an affordable Linux hand-held device (without having to buy a Sharp Zaurus). Hmmmm... might have to wait a bit longer.

I thought it was a phone when i saw it.

I'd prefer if it actually did have a phone to.
It is forbidden to kill; therefore all murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets.

Yes, it definitely looks a bit like a phone. I think it has VOIP built in, but that limits you a bit.

The main problem is price. I could fork out for a Nokia N800 (which does what I want) but I won't part with nearly £300 for a device like that. Probably I'll end up with a reconditioned laptop, and I'll install Ubuntu. The only thing that would lack is... I would need bigger pockets!

Hmmm - In my search for 'handheld device Nirvana' I think I may have stumbled on something. The GP2X weighs in at a respectable price (around GBP 127), has two CPUs and a possible 30+ GB of disk space.

Its got an enthusiastic community behind it, several good product reviews and it drives your car for you (no: I made that up).

A lot of old games are supported via its built in emulator. I don't have one yet... gonna wait until Christmas. Do you think I might be onto something? And no... I don't work for them.
