My opinion is that you should try each distro, then form your own opinions about each , then go with the one you like best. This is most likely what you will eventually do anyway.
A dozen people coming along and stirring the pot will likely only confuse the issue.
Again, just my opinion.

Well, ozar I agree on that aswell.
Though I have nearly tryed everything already. And well I still love Gentoo.
But I hate the fact that it is all Source that you need to compile..
And on a 400Mhz thats not going to work out fine.. :o
I think Im going for Debian with xfce lightweight...
Though i dont know how the Debian Package System works =P
I really have to Figure that out..

Debian has one of the easiest and powerful Package management system. apt-get/aptitude and dpkg. Check here.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
