Can anyone please recommend some website management reading?

I do not know a thing about managing a website.

What I want to do is have a few website pages about my hobbies; containing some food and juice cures for some illnesses, and a few pages about nine star ki astrology. I also want to be able to put in a few links to sites I visit regularly.

Can anyone suggest how I could become familiar with how to go about doing this??

    Thank You!!

Who is your Internet Service Provider?
I would be willing to bet that your provider has a "Howto" for creating your own webpages, they may even have a simple editor to help you along.
I use charter.net and this is a link that explains how to create and upload pages to my site.

Tell me who your ISP is and I will try to locate a help page for you.

My ISP is copper.net but I suspect them ( like most dial-up ISP's ) of loading malicious software into my computer so I did not bother to seek to do a website with them.

I took Ozar's advise and went with Namesecure. They have a bunch of available hosting plans and mention stuff that I know absolutely nothing about.

CheaptoRegister prostituted my parked domain name ( realseriouscousins.org ) so badly I feel completely ashamed of that domain name now.

NameSecure allowed me to set up a " parked domain mini-page "
( seriouscousins.org ) that does not offend my cranky old man principles.

If anyone googles nine star ki - lots of wedsites will be named looking for people to spend their money for information. Whereas I have an " open source " attitude about it and just want to share it and my other hobbies.

I live in New york City but I do not treat the perpetual pursuit of money as some form of warped religeous addiction as most New Yorkers do.

My godson always tells me he hopes he never catches what I've got.

Step-by-step instructions on how to register a domain name and more at NameSecure.com | NameSecure
You might try a few of these links, "Set Up a Mini-Site" sounds kinda like what you want.

I have been emailing Namesecure support back and forth all day, MikeTbob.

Their emails state that they are focused on delivering quality customer service but they still do not understand my emails, my problem, or my frustration.

I am an old man so when I walk into a store and ask someone who works there just where something is they will usually lead me to it and not imply that we have in somewhere in there go and find it yourself.

After namesecure emailed me that the transfer of my domain to them was successful I logged into my account and set up a mini-page and waited for the change to take effect. When no change occured I contacted Namesecure support about it and was told to use the DNS manager or the URL forwarding.

I do not ever know what they are so I could not possibly know how to use them. Do I get walked through the necessary process by Namesecure? No I do not!!

All I'm going to get is more bs.

It sounds like you have some serious obstacles to overcome there, Cuz. It's hard enough getting your head around putting a site together when you have a rough idea where to go with it, let alone having to wrestle with a so called 'service provider'.

If you plan your content first (you might type some stuff into a few text files) and perhaps sketch the structure of your site into a notebook (diagrams really help) that would be a start. The techie stuff can, perhaps, come later. It's easy to think of a website in purely technical terms, but content is King. Keep it simple...

When you have a basic outline for a site, maybe some of us on here can take a look and offer some suggestions. If you can manage to get just one page up, that's one more page than some people! Mighty oaks grow from little acorns.

    Hi.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Perhaps a blog would be more useful. At https://www.blogger.com/start it's free, and most of the infrastructure is taken care of for you ... cheers, drl

In the movie " Short Circuit " the robot was always seeking " input ". As a human being one has to be careful of just who one listens to. If what I have come to learn and appreciate over the last 63 years can be passed on with an " Open Source Attitude " over the Internet that would please me greatly.

Namesecure support does not realize just how much of a computer illiterate I am and I will have to find a knowledge and spiritual person to help me organize just what I want to do with the website. If I am successful I am hoping that others will someday keep the website going long after I am gone.

I saved some of the files from this website:

    nothingistic.org :: library

The website does not have any ads or " flash " distractions. It is simple and very much to the point even though a lot of space is not used.

It is a website for the " input " of information into the minds of its visitors. I wish to set up my website for the free passage of information to those who want it.

I also want to convey through my website my personal conviction as expressed in:

Tu Ne Cede Malis, Sed Contra Audentior Ito

Which I follow daily using the princples of yin/yang as best I can.

    Hi.

Did you also look at his wife's blog? -- A Fraternity of Dreamers -- it's on the site that I mentioned (blogger and blogspot are related; the link on his page to her blog is wrong: nothingistic.org :: dead end, but you can get the correct link with a little editing) ... cheers, drl
