Usually, when I find a forum, I'll lurk for a while. It gives you a
chance to get to know the tone of the place and what the rules
are. Both the written and unwritten ones.

When I have something to say, I'll join up, log in and post. When I
find a good one, I'll stick around.

This place is one of the friendliest Linux forums I have encountered
with none of the elitism that can drive those considering using the
OS back into the bosom of Microsoft.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

I understand what you're saying about elitism, and these days I think that if someone (or some group) think of themselves that way they're probably deluding themselves.

This Forum at least has the goal of helping people to sort out their Linux problems. Other online communities (of all kinds) seem to be temples where people can worship their own egos. While it's sometimes tempting to join in, I agree with Cousinlucky. The Linux philosophy of sharing information is the way to go.

    Thank You, Fingal!!

Wouldn't it be just great if people could set up websites, not to make money or scam people, but to freely share their knowledge with the rest of humanity for the betterment of humanity.

There are things that I know that I would like to put up on a self-sustaining website and make available for generations to come. I am sure that there are other people the world over who would just love to do the same thing.

It would just be great if people did not have to seek teachers and their classes to learn all of the knowledge that mankind has amassed over the centuries.

I'm just a shy person in general. I've lurked on other forums before and have been to shy to post, but I wanted to ask a question on one of those forums so I just went ahead and asked away. I slowly started gaining confidence I guess you can say so now it's not as much of a problem. I just joined this forum the other week and I've replied a few times to some posts. I guess some ppl lurk because they don't read the entire forum before they ask a question and when they do someone else comes in and says "hey that's been posted before!" so I guess that could be a reason why ppl lurk.
