    Wondering about the gOS distribution?

So, have any of you actually installed the distro that the new computer for sale at Walmart uses?

    gOS

I'd kind of like to try it, but guess I'm too lazy.

Enlightenment on an Ubuntu base sounds interesting, though. The download seems to be available only by torrent at the current time and I'm not a fan of torrent downloads.

I hereby volunteer myself to take that bullet

I have my whole download cap ahead of me so I'll give it a go. Plus It'll give me something else to play with in Virtualbox.

EDIT I'm already getting it down, but just in case anyone's curious or is unable to use the torrent there is an ftp download here

The FTP isn't being nice, nor is the torrent download link. They show up as broken links for me, and I've read that the download takes 12 hours to complete... Anyways, I'll try it. I wish there were specs on there site. By curiosity, does the "g" in "gOS" stand for Green Operating System?

I have the desire to say Google, but trademarks say no way.

Yeah I think it's Green but I'm sure they're only happy to have people think it's Google as it has integrated Google's services into it. I have the torrent coming down now but it's not that quick.

Yes, I read elsewhere that the "g" is indeed for Green.

Thanks for the ftp download link. I'll probably wait to see what you guys think before downloading it myself, especially if the servers are acting up, or are really slow. I thought it might be a rather small download, but you can't tell much from looking at their website.

it says on their site that their servers have been getting swamped ever since ppl learned it was available to download.

i might try it when they have a newer version or when more people have tryed it.
Microsoft isn't evil, they just make really crappy operating systems.

I've just heard about it, and it looks really cool. I'm torrenting it right now, and it is going at an alright speed. (500kb/s) I'll have to test it out tomorrow.

Edit: I'm posting from gOS right now. It seems alright. I'll have to look into it more tomorrow.

    Edit Again:
I don't really like it so far. It seems to be all eye candy without any useful features. I had trouble setting up my WiFi, and when I was about to give up for the night it suddenly said new IP and started working. Then I got a popup saying that the IP had change three times. :/ There is a line on the desktop that shows over every window. (there was two, but one disappeared before I took the screenshot)

The scroll wheel doesn't work, the theme is a little inconsistent, (most things are green, but somethings like the network settings for example are more of a gold theme) the Google search bar is too large which makes it distracting and ugly, etc. I'm sure most if not all of these things can be easily fixed, but it makes it a little less impressive, especially since I don't really see any advantages it has. I think I will be sticking with Mandriva and KDE/Gnome.

My understanding is that it is only in alpha stage, so very buggy. The exception is on their 'approved' hardware, where they have tested everything already.
