Well, the Core part isn't used in the name anymore, but anyways...

I have used Fedora 8 since the release, and am very happy with it. The new theme is excellent and PulseAudio, a new sound server is included. It doesn't yet do anything besides giving me per-application volume controls, but in the future they probably add many more features to it.

Fedora 8 also debuts a new open source Java environment, based on Sun Java, called IcedTea. It is much better than the old free implementations, though not still completely equivalent to Sun's Java.

There are many unofficial spins available at spins.fedoraproject.org, for example a Games LiveDVD and a software developers' spin.

Otherwise Fedora has got the usual updates to all the software. If someone liked the previous Fedoras, he probably will like Fedora 8. On the other hand, the habit of going with strictly free software and having a short lifespan of a release are still preserved. I am happy with those, but Fedora probably won't suit everyone.

There are also lots of new Fedora 8 reviews you can check out on the front page over at DistroWatch. Look for them in the far left column of the front page.

I've not tried it myself, and probably won't get around to it.

i liked it for the most part however i didn't go farther than installing it and using it. i didn't install drivers for video etc. my experience with fedora in the past has tainted my feelings of whether i would ever use this distro full time. its been in the past buggy slow and painful to work with. for starters downloading a dvd is daunting and i am sure put me on RIAA or MPAA watch lists due to excessive bandwidth usage.
