So the othey day I bought an Acer Aspire 1640 1.73ghz laptop.
Today I bought another one. A Toshiba Satellite with a P4 3.33ghz, 17" display, ATI graphics, 100gb HD, 512mb RAM, built in wireless card.
It's badass. I got it so I can write software while at the park, or on the road. I am installing Visual Studio on it right now. I am going to get another hard drive for it to put Linux on. This Laptop will be XP mainly but with Linux as a 2nd OS. My first laptop I got a few days ago is 100% linux. I wiped any trace of windows completely off of it.
It's funny how my 3.33mhz laptop with XP loaded on it runs slower than my 1.73mhz laptop with PCLinuxOS. hehe...
So I am all excited. The laptop is powerful enough where I can use it as a desktop with a standard keyboard and mouse. Then I can turn my 2.66ghz desktop PC into a full time server. So byebye windows on that machine too!

Don't we like them though

I have a server running Ubunto* 6.06 lts server
A desktop running Ubuntu 7.10 64 for my home office
A laptop running Ubuntu 7.10 32 for when I feel like working in front of the telly
And One of these on the way for carrying round.
I have just realised that I seem to like Ubuntu

I have also tried
Simply Mepis (my second fave)
Suse - hated it. It was nothing but trouble.
Fedora - hated it. Really hated Yum!
I keep thinking about Gentoo but don't have the time so I have
started sniffing around Arch and wondering what that is like

Well. I downloaded it last night and if I get time, I am going to install
it on an old laptop over the weekend. It is a decent spec but the hardware
starts to die if it is on for more than a couple of hours! If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
