    solved laptop/linux

"Good news everybody." I finally found a simple newb fix for getting linux to run right on my laptop. I am sure this is probly common knowlege. SIT ON IT (= jk =). Im happy at myself, and I am VERY excited to be able to have a proper linux OS running (or in this current case several).

I installed VMware. I setup up a VM and install linux onto it. I came across the idea last night. I installed 1 (test) os a bout an hour ago. I am installing a more complete OS now.

Best part of all is: I can have a true windows, and a true linux both running at the same time with no need to reset my notebook.

Heh Good you have done that.
You might want to look into that idea a bit more when you hear about Qemu, innotek, OpenVZ.

Anyhow, have fun with Linux. and you might want Linux to Conquer Windows one day..

To decide you have to pick:
    Richard Stallman or Steve Ballmer?
    Linus Torvalds or Bill Gates?
    Tux or Flying Window?

    heh anyhow, good your happy

If you ever have Linux questions, just ask.

    Cheers,
    Robin

Like I said its a "newb fix". I am sure I will run into some real problems eventually. But atm my biggest problem was making it work. With VM it seems I can run most of the distros without trouble. (Well I ran a few live CDs that would not boot on my computer thru VM and they worked great.) So yes for right now it seems to be an awsome fix. Simple, no advanced knowlege needed. I can even run liveCD software in VM mode. Saving my system from constant resetting.

    Thats a hard choice.

Long hair > Richard Stallman or Steve Ballmer < bald
    I have long hair so...

Linus Torvalds or Bill Gates < Richest man in the world!
As far as kool titles go, "Richet Man in the World" is pretty kool (jelious)

    Tux or Flying Window
Man Ive hated that damned window all my life. gentoo = cute

So well it looks like im stuck. Ill have to live all my live with both windows and linux running together, as it seems neither of them can complete me. Tho linux is quickly winning desktop.

    Cheers,
    Robin

Honestly? By nature I am a glutten. Example: I have an old tower I use only for DLs. I saw VM might work so I went to my tower and started about 9 DLs for differnt distros. I know thats not good, but its my nature and and well now I aint gotta touch it gain.

So by having windows and linux I got more options. As by my nature I crave as many as possible.

    Linux:
I love the idea of it. It save me from a bind. My OS got wipe out. I needed something fast. Linux was there to save me. Its free, small, powerful, and goes anywhere. I love how I can actually look at and see the codes for the programs I am using. I may not understand them (yet) but I find them interesting. I am impressed by the range of software. At first glance it seems the software is on =/> windows' software.

    Windows:
I know how to use it well. Ive used it for many years. It has an endless number of softwares to choose from. If I need/want something chances are Ill find a windows program first.

depends on what you want to do.
if you want to do Network Analyzing or ROM-Coding you find better Linux Tools.
Anyhow, Linux is more then you think at the moment.
Its not that hard. When you know a bit basics of the CommandLine and have a Ichy Tab finger youll get the hang of it very Quickly.
I still dont run linux at home..
    I only do at work.
I work with linux for about 3~4 Months now.
And I think I understand Linux, I hardly get problems that are unsolvable by Google, Tab and linux forums

    its not that hard.
Just think of a project and do that...
    Then youll learn really quickly

I dont doubt you there. I just have a LOT of reading to do. I read slow and I have alot of things I am trying to learn. (= You know how I am =) The short list of topics Im working on atm:
    linux
    window
    micro office
general pc (Sadly 2 months ago I knew nothing that was not fed to me thru a GUI)
    webdesign
    several codes languages
    general networking
    general ISS
    general malware
    basic hacking
    basic cracking
    internet

LOL like I said just a couple months ago all I knew was how to operate a windows system thru the GUI. I have alot to learn fast if I hope get my degrees in networking an ISS.

    Well:
    linux -> Smart Move
window -> There isnt really anything to learn
micro office -> I dont know what you want there..
general pc -> You mean like Hardware?
webdesign -> Really easy, you learn CSS in less then 24 hours.. HTML in less then 12 HOURS.
several codes languages -> Why Several? C++ does most of the job. First learn C++ and then you might want to learn another one
general networking -> Like CAT-5 cables how Routing works how NAT works what ARP is what the Diffrence if from a Hub and a Router? I might be able to give you some lessons.
general ISS -> I keep forgetting what ISS is -.-'
general malware -> Like, how to infect a Windows Box? Small Advice Dont learn it.. Dont go there.. really its a waste of your life if you write some Virii and do something stupid..
basic hacking -> Using Linux envolves into hacking really Quick
basic cracking -> DONT go there, Ive been there.. It sounds intresting, it is.. But you'll get into REAL troubles. I nearly got kicked out of two schools... (if you really want I can teach you some)
internet -> After all the other topics you'll know inet

Anyhow, good luck with that all.

"General PC" is a class I am taking. "Office" I have another class that teaches it. Its windows so I have a good grasp of it.

Webdesign I know is easy. I have a good grasp of html, and a lil CSS. Its off topic for my classes and its falling to the lower half my my list of things to learn.

"Several languages" I know C++ is a GREAT language. VERY complete. But Ive read its harder to learn and is not suggest for a first language. Ive read perl is a good simple language to start with. I seem to remember reading java is simple to learn too. If you remember N.I.C.O.L.E. she was written in C++ and I have not given up on her.

    ISS = Information System Security

Malware and cracking are both covered in my course studies. I wanna get a grip on them now while I am still in research mode. I dont think Ill go to far with it. But having an understanding of what it is and knowing the basic HOWTOs of it would only benifit me.
