In my opinion, the best way to learn about Linux is to use it. Download an ISO file and burn it. You might want to start with a LiveCD distribution like Ubuntu or Mepis that will let you play with it and not install anything onto your local harddrive.

It depends on what you want to do with Linux, scripting, programming?
Then first off, try to master the system utilities: ls, cat, cmp, grep, etc. and learn to use an editor, you need to be comfortable with one.
Then, master the shell, you can do a great deal of useful work with just the shell with the utilities.
Some useful links for bash scripting:

Once you've learned how to write useful programs in the shell, try to master other utilities like sed and awk.
After that you can think about a program language and that depends on what you want to do.
And....try to find answers for questions in the forum yourself and compare your solution with the given answers.
Regards

Also, you might search the Coffee Lounge for free Linux books. There have been lots of links posted to them posted over the years, some over the last few days.
