lots of wrong Threads.
I wonder why nearly everybody posts Topics under the wrong category..?
Lots of people have for example a problem with Wireless and post it under Ubuntu. Since they have Ubuntu. But the problem isnt a Ubuntu problem.
Same with Apache. Or Other stuff that is just posted under the Distro when its just simple a problem of the program and not Distribution Related what so ever.
I am just wondering.
Why is that?
Cheers,

It's most likely to be a case of perception.
If the software has been installed through the distros package manager, it
is relatively easy to see how it could be perceived as a distro problem. If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Well, if Ill install Iptables during Yum, emerge or apt It wont mind if I am not able to setup the firewall. Its the same in all the Distros. But still you see it in a wide vary of Distro Specific threads.
I dont want to look like a Grumpy old man.
I am just wondering

Very true... lots of threads do seem to get placed incorrectly.
Sometimes, I think people are dropping their new threads off (no matter what the thread is about) in the RedHat/Fedora forum because it's the busiest forum, and it is on top of the forums listing.oz

Personally, I just check the new posts daily and take no notice at all of the forum header. If I'm looking for a specific problem or solution I search all threads and again, ignore the particular header.

This isn't something that happens to just this forum, I help administrate a car forum, and it is unbelievable how many people put technical questions in a non technical area, even when at the top of that area, it says NOT to put technical questions in that section.

Yep, failure to pay attention to details is a common problem with operating system users.

I visit a forum just for old time sake from time to time (woodys Lounge - MS office etc). The moderators will move posts to the correct thread if they think someone's chosen badly. It's all done in a very friendly way of course.

I am moderator on one of the other Linux forums and posting in the wrong place seems to be common. We spend quite a lot of time moving threads (and closing/deleting duplicates). I think most of the time its caused by ignorance on how forums are supposed to work and impatience because some people don't look at the available categories and post in the first category they see listed on the site.
