I have an Archos 605 WiFi 80GB - just got it. I am not a hacker, but I am a programmer (unfortunately, I don't know C very well).
1) It needs the ability to have no backlight power-off. The max is 90s which is stupid. Can't disable this, so the backlight shuts off while using it.
2) It needs a shell terminal so can access a command prompt.
3) It needs a new / replacable main desktop 'menu'.
4) It needs an SDK like the PMA440 and 3rd party software to be written for it.
*** 5) Bu MOST IMPORTANTLY, it needs to run Palm OS software or have an emulator or a port path. Specifically, I desperately want Graffiti 1 to run on it. Alterntively, SOME handwriting app to replace the stupid keyboard widget. Though I've been using Graffiti 1 (yes, even on the newest Palm OS devices) for years. Changing is possible, but not desirable as it would slow me down to a crawl and cause no end of frustration (why I an others still use Graffiti 1).
That ought to keep the LINUX hackers busy for a while! I did download the GPL source and none of their proprietary software is on there (no surprise). I suspect that after enough geeks like me who also are able to work with LINUX and C get their hands on this, there will be 3rd party apps galore. I hope.
