I know what you're thinking. 'What's this doing here?' Well, I've been getting more guitar practice in just recently so I've visited a guitar Forum or two.
It's amusing to read how similar some of the threads are to this (or any?) Forum. This is fictional, but you might find:
Hi there: I want to know what would be the best guitar for me. Any advice? - GuitarNoob
Can you be more specific please? We need to know what style you play, rock / acoustic etc. - GuitarModZiggy
Well, I play rock and I want to know what would be a good setup for 'shredding' and playing Opeth tracks. I've been playing for about 2 years and it's time to get more seriouz. - GuitarNoob
The problem is, 'good' and 'best' are very subjective. What suits one doesn't suit another. But I can recommend a mid-range BC Rich on a tight budget. - GuitarModZiggy
BC Rich's suck ass man! Get an Ibanez. - TrollFreakz
Don't use a BC Rich guitar with a Marshall amp. Marshall's have had their day. I've been using a Laney for 12 years now with no trouble. - HotFingers
Message for TrollFreakz. Behave or I'll ban your IP! - GuitarModZiggy
Yeah, but which is the BEST setup for playing Opeth tracks? You guys are flaming me. All I wanted was... etc... - GuitarNoobI am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

Haha. Yep. Substitute "guitar" with "distribution" and you've got one of our threads... minus the Mod wanting to ban someone for disagreeing with him that is.

That's funny, the OP thinks that everyone is flaming him. He says he wants to play Opeth tracks, and for many, they are probably thinking "Who the heck is Opeth?". By the way, I have no idea who that is as well.

Those who don't know what guitar to buy ought to buy an affordable, low-priced one. I don't really ask people what to buy. I don't have to build calluses with Linux. I've often considered fret buzz and string gauge to be the most of my worries.
I'm sorry you don't like nursery rhymes. I've always considered the oldies to be a fascinating social engineering tactic with morbid, deceitful intent toward the children of tomorrow. The itsy, bitsy spider primes children for disappointment and futility. I came across some old books filled with nursery rhymes and poems from the 1800s. Those were terribly filled with social engineering tactics and prejudice.

For those who can't hear the notes or read tabs too well, I've got only one thing to say...

I couldn't see it until you clued me in at the bottom. I must admit, I enjoyed the first series of those shows. Once they went "Ninja" it just got weird.

Sorry I meant no offence by what I said, nor did I mean that Nursery rhymes were bad. The joke was that Smoke on the Water is generally the first riff you would learn, much like children learn to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the violin as an introduction because it is simple and familiar.
The real joke is that playing Smoke on the Water is kind of like that scene in Wayne's World where he goes to play Stairway to Heaven in the guitar shop. It's like an in-joke because it's played so often that people cringe when it's heard in music shops.
Well don't worry, it all comes with time and practice. I know people hate hearing that but when you get to the other side you'll be saying it tooI've often considered fret buzz and string gauge to be the most of my worries.

Very true... I love the guitar solo in Stairway to Heaven though. There's something about a Gibson Les Paul and a valve amp. <sigh>
There are such things as guitar sites for geeks, but I've been avoiding them; they distract me from practicing... I did find out that John Lennon and George Harrison played Epiphone Casinos though. You can still buy those. I'll stop now: I could go on all day about guitars.

I'm actually in the process of upgrading my Strat. I just got a new CBS style maple neck for it when I discovered the cost of refretting my old (Squier) neck was the same as getting a Fender one from eBay. The guitar itself only got the Squier neck last year, I'm actually not sure what make it is. In fact I've changed so many things only the trem-block, body and jack plate are left of what I was given as it was in bad shape when I got it.
I've also just ordered some Tolex and grill cloth for my Marshall. When I was 18 I worked all summer to pay for a beaten up Marshall half stack in a shop near my mother's home. I later found out it was a 1979 100W Super Lead which is one of the finest amps you can get I reckon. So the cabinet looks rugged and I thought I'd recover it.
Generally when I'm not Linuxing I'm guitarring and my penchant for understanding and improving things doesn't end with computers
