| No Lifer Again Gets No Sound Since I have no life, of course I love to sit around each day and try a new distro. This one was straight out of a whole plastic box glued to Linux user & Developer magazine from Fry's.
It was a stunning looking presentation of PCLinuxOS. In fact, I'm web surfing and writing now from the live CD. Great Looking. The whole GUI is the sharpest looking thing I've seen in quite some time. And, plus, as you might imagine, this newest edition, as well as having a million-dollar-looking interface, probably has approximately ten thousand new security updates. And I know, every day, I lose sleep just wondering, "Gosh, when will Linux developers finally make me several thousand new security updates?" And yes, they did not disappoint those of us just sitting on the very edges of our chairs waiting for more security updates. Yeah, sometimes I just break into a cold sweat waiting for thousands of more security updates.
Oh yeah, by the way, can you guess what part of the live CD did not work? Could anyone guess? Right, the SOUND. NO SOUND, AGAIN, FROM ANOTHER DISTRO. Great interface, a billion security updates, NO SOUND, AGAIN. Folks, we really need to pull this together. So I went on to google, and I put in the following words, "PCLinux OS" and "No Sound," and, as always, page after page after page. In fact, the few Linux users out there who were getting sound, upgraded, then lost it. That's right, when we're not just spacing out on the sound issue completely, we're actually removing it from systems that formerly had it. Dudes!
Oh well, so, back to Puppy Linux, yes, well. So, you know, Puppy is severely criticized for not having enough security updates. Hmm, well. So, did you know that Puppy turns on the sound? I'll take the sound over security updates. Hey, so Puppy can work this Voodoo, but PCLinuxOS can't. I mean, that's nuts, right? |
