Seagate snubs Linux - The INQUIRER

Is this is a slap in the face or what? I think it's totally unacceptable and I will not be buying one.

Hmm, that's a bummer. I think I have this exact same drive they are talking about on the article. I haven't tested it with Linux yet, but it's a Free Agent and has the power saving stuff to it. Right now it's connected to a Windows PC, and is strictly used for back-ups, so it's not so bad, but I was hoping to use it as an external backup to the the new file server I'm building.

I guess Seagate won't be getting any of my money.
I will stick with WD and and Maxtor.

Maxtor make the best hard drives as far as I'm concerned. I've got a few and they're solid!

See, if it wasn't for their response that Linux users can go F themselves, I might be inclined to think that it was something of an oversight: sure, they should have tested their drives under Linux, but they will fix the issue and perform free exchanges. Instead, we get this.

I'm with budman on this one.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

That doesn't mean I'm going to buy them, it's useful for anybody who already has and regrets it, but if you're a Linux user, support those who support you.
