Sauerbraten (great game)
Soured meat, anyone?
I haven't heard of many people mention this game directly mention (although it was at the bottom of a list that Anomie linked to not long back), despite the common "What's a good game for Linux" forums that pop up.
So, I was walking around Kroger's and, as I always do when I go to a store with a comic/magazine section, I stopped to look around, and in two computer magazines there were snippets and copies on the discs of this game called Sauerbraten. So I went home and googled it, when lo and behold, it seems to be actually interesting! Sauerbraten is free, open-source, and pretty darn good. In fact, it's the only game I've seen to have dynamic team colouring --that is, instead of wondering if you're on the red or blue team, you are always on the blue team, and your opponents are always red. I have to say that my favorite part isn't really a big thing in the game though --the menus are a created object in the game. You pres the escape button and the menu pops up... and I mean it pops up. Like a box or sheet of paper just standing in front of you. You can walk around it or through it or whatever... that is so cool! And the gameplay so far has been real nice, too, although I this is only the third game I have seriously played on a computer (I'm a console pro --but a complete n00b in computer gaming).
Anyone else played it? Or does anyone care to go download and try it out?
It's worth it, I'd say.

I'll have to check that out. I was a fan of Cube and still play AssaultCube from time to time. Though my favourite is Tremulous and I have been playing frets on fire recently.
