Hey! Fluxbox really rocks!
I installed fluxbox a few weeks ago and I am really coming to love it. It loads in exactly 10 sec after sending my password (gnome takes over half a minute) and it is highly configurable. It also has some useful facilities that I've never seen before like named workspaces and grouping (tabbing) of windows.
Admittedly it takes a lot of configuration; I'm still pruning and rearranging the root menu. And I can't get the icons I installed to respond to my double-clicks reliably (I never was much good at double-clicking). But I'm a great believer in the old adage that the good Lord helps those who help themselves, so I wrote a little buttonbar program to launch my favourite apps with single clicks instead. With that and the root menu for less commonly used items I have everything I need.
I don't think I'll be going back to gnome anytime in the near future."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

That's great. I had sort of the same experience with Openbox. Although, I didn't write my own utilities to use it. It's very nice when things are so highly configurable.
The one complaint I have, and it's not really Openbox's fault, is that applications that are dependent on a certain DE don't run very well. I have always been partial to k3b for my CD burning needs and other apps for various tasks and have never been one for strict command line use so it's a little disappointing that they don't run as well as I'd like. But that's my only gripe and it's a small one so I can live with it.

My favorite thing regarding Fluxbox is the overall simplicity!

I am currently in love with XFCE, how does Fluxbox relate?

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
- 12-18-2007 #5I moved to fluxbox over a year ago after getting frustrated with how long it took to upgrade KDE ports in FBSD. (fluxbox upgrades very quickly by comparison.)

From the time I type startx to the time fluxbox is fully loaded is perhaps 3 - 4 seconds.

I tried fluxbox recently for like a day, ended up going back to my fvwm-crystal setup
on my fairly crappy laptop i type exec startx and it loads in 1-2

Fluxbox doesn't work on my system for some reason. I'm not able to bring up the menu. But I use Openbox which does the trick. And I think I actually like it better than Fluxbox.
Unlike the person a few posts back I haven't had problems with DE specific apps. In fact that's the reason I changed to Openbox from FVWM.

Microsoft isn't evil, they just make really crappy operating systems.
