Exclamation Will this ruin my laptop battery??

I just purchased an AC adapter on ebay which was listed with the exact model number and voltage... all of the specs were exactly the same as my current broken one that came with the laptop. I just received the adapter and it is slightly off... Here are my original adapter's specs:

    Model: PA-1161-02
    Input: 100-240 V~ 50-60 Hz 2.25 A
    Output: 20V 8.0A

Here are the new adapters specs (the red text are the differences):
    Model: PA-1181-08
    Input: 100-240 V~ 50-60 Hz 2.5 A
    Output: 19V 9.5A

I know that I didn't receive what I ordered but if it wouldn't do any damage I would be willing to keep it anyway. The adapter was very cheap. If I purchased the adapter I need it would cost roughtly $80 for a good deal.

So could this damage my battery? If so what would it do?

    Thanks

The newer one is better for your battery It wont get it as hot and it will charge fine! The voltage being used is OK it the amperage that matters in this case. The new one will give the laptop more power on the draw because the amps are higher! You are OK as long as the negative and positive voltage is the same! In other words the connector on the end should be checked before you plug the new one in!

Cool, thanks for clearing that up for me... I have one question though: What do you mean by the connector on the end?

The end of the plug is round! The inside of the connector should be either positive voltage or negative voltage! The outside of the connector is + or - voltage! On the old supply it shows a diagram of the connector (O) - negative (O) + positive Make sure inside of the hole matches the new one you got.

    How would you interpret this?

Just curious. How would you interpret this? Here are the diagrams for each of the adapters. The new adapter is easy to understand but what do you think? It is a four prong plugin (Not a great idea, probably the reason it broke so easily). Take a look at the attachments... just a note, the old adapter diagram is of the connector on it's side.

Both are same and you are good to go.
    1, 2 are + and 3, 4 are - in old adapter.
Same are in new one. Left top/bottom are - and Right top/bottom are +.

    HTML Code:
      Old New
    4- 2+ - +
    3- 1+ - +
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
