How HOT should your computer get?

Try writting the computer specifications and the average temepratures it reaches.
try finding it at different times life when you are running a lot of apps, with no apps, while the CD/DVD runs for long time, as soon as you had switshed your comp or after a long time of just having music and not allowing it to suspend,(well only a few to name)
    Try
    acpi -t
    on the CLI

    I have a AMD Turitorn x 2 on my laptop with a 2GB RAM
The temperatures vary between 55 degrees C and 75 degrees C

My initial intention was to ask if something was wrong with this. Which i still feel.
But i am making this a different thread which many more ppl can just drop in to tell about themselves rather than just the ppl who are interested in solving my query.
Thats also because i saw just one thread about heat.

Also all sugestions to cool down the comp are very much welcome.
I have a feel anything above 60 degrees would lead to my processor to burst but its true that it shows even 79 degrees sometimes (I saw it twice today)

I think you're PC is simply too hot! In my BIOS I have possibilities to ask automated system shut-down if it reaches temperatures over 55 C. My PC is running with around 40 C. Get a better cooler. For a processor: the cooler, the better.
By the way: You should check whether the cables inside your box are blocking the motion of air. It happened to me once, that I've almost covered the cooler with cables and the temperature have increased over the shut-down limit.
If you need a CD/DVD catalogizer, give a try to my program:

Usually PCs are set to shutdown before 70 degrees Celsius. Legend has it that every ten degrees you heat your components by halves their life span if left running at that temperature.

My PC runs between 35 and 40, and it's a Quad core though I do have a decent CPU cooler and a lot of case fans. Turions are known for being hot but that is far too hot for any notebook. Are you blocking vents or running it on your lap? Are you consistently gaming or running heavy applications on it?

It really depends on your type of processor. According to Intel, the maximum die temperature for my Core Duo "Yonah" is 100C. Therefore a regular temperature between 55C-80C is perfectly acceptable. I don't know what brands everyone else is using, but my original Core Duo usually idled around 35-50C and peaked at around 80C. I've had it for a couple of years now and it hasn't fried yet.

The Core 2 Duo, on the other hand is rated for only about 60-70C, so 80C would be past its upper threshold and into dangerous territory. Like I said, it just depends on your processor. I'd look around and find out what the maximum die temp is for your CPU before I go tweaking fan settings and whatnot. You could end up doing more damage if you set the fans to too low a speed.

If some one could help in finding the temp required it would be nice!
Mine is a AMD Turitron Dual core or whatever!!
Ill find out fom the specs.....
    I am using a laptop!

By the way Are you talking about a fan when you tell a cooler or a special separate device that cools a processor from the outside?

on laptops its really difficult to find stuff for cooling plus there might be a defect in the cooling system if it does get too hot. my wifes laptop the fan went out and it was out of warranty so i had to buy a new one and take apart my laptop. some laptops are notorious for overheating too.

According to this site your specific model number will tell you what the maximum die temperature is for your CPU, but without the model number I can't tell you which one yours fits. They range all the way from 70C to 100C, so that's quite a spread.

Not sure what you're asking, but when I talk about making the fans run fast or slow I'm talking about your internal fans. It's possible to control the speed of them with the right software. Turning the minimum speed of the fans up can reduce the amount of heat you feel coming off the laptop. It helped for my MacBook Pro.

This is my model. And the sites interface is real bad / as in i couldn't read. The colors were bad. If the super moderator could help in finding the temp range it would be a great thanks.

by the way "carlosponti" has yet to tell his temperature.
