Have I earned the right to vent yet?
I've mentioned before that I have been trying to get a foothold in Java programming. This was because the local community college only offered Java classes at the campus I could go to (there are three different campuses, but I can only get to one). Well, I didn't get the class last semester, and this semester only offers "Java II." I'd say I am good at learning, but I still don't want to jump into a class claiming I know more than I do.
Luckily, the adviser found a C++ online class (which was my first choice of languages), but the class had filled up since his list was printed, so that was out, too.
So, what class do I now have?
VisualBasic.NET.
I guess I might not be on here so much for the next few months....

That is what I program in, VB .NET. I am also taking small test programs I need to do and using C# to learn it. It was one of those things, where all the companies I ended up at used a form of Visual Basic and not C type languages.

The real tragedy is that the onlic language I have had time to sit and learn was BASIC (Specifically a watered down version of powerBASIC...). In sixth grade I found a book on "High School Programming" (huh?!) and played with it for a while. I even wrote a sort of coloring program (although I didn't have any way of erasing --once you drew, it was stuck until the program ended), but later I started to learn C, and even though I never got far in it I liked it more than what I had used. And all of this is without mention that the computer I just finished setting up in my room for the specific purpose of learning Java and C++ in Linux is now useless as far as classes go.
And something I find funny: my father, whom of which I receive most of my 2nd hand books and education from, recently gave me a lot of his old computer books, but thinking that I would never need the BASIC books, I let them go with some of the other books we both considered obsolete (like troubleshooting Win 95, 10 year old Cisco manuals, et cetera). I even have the very latest VB.NET software thingy (can't recall exactly what it is...), but since discovering that I might have to use it now I can't find it anywhere.
