    Doesn't Amarok do that?

There are many programs that will sync with the ipod. I believe amarok, banshee and rhythmbox all do a great job at this.

As yet there is no real way to sync a zune with linux.

The later versions Banshee do apparently. It is a Gnome application that can be installed just as easily on KDE

Songbird has been my favorite for connecting iPods (and only, considering my iPod was stolen right after finding it...). I know that there are plenty (including those mentioned) that also support iPods, as well as the ability to put Linux on the iPod and run it as such.
As for Zune, I know that Linux has been put on it, and therefore some level of compatability is available, but to what degree I am unsure. For instance, if you are shy about putting Linux on it, I don't know if there is any way to sync the Zune simply with any media players. I've found some talk of MediaMonkey (I'm assuming a mediaplayer that I have not messed with) and something called zAlternator that lets you sync up with it, but it's all confusing to me since I haven't had a chance to sit and read about it.

Either way, the iPods hold more, so I'm not spectacularly concerned with Zune.
