Nice to meet you...
I am new to this forum, so I assumed I should stop here and introduce myself.
My name is Lich, and I've been involved with Linux now for about 6 months. I'm currently running Ubuntu 7.10 on a Gateway MT6831 Notebook. Nearly everything runs as it is supposed to. There are a few oddities - nothing that hinders performance - but some things I will ask about as time goes on, and in other areas of the forum.
I actually began tinkering with Linux more than a year ago, but endured faulty installations, network issues, etc, with other versions on other laptops. My inexperience, coupled with the need for a working OS, kept forcing me back to Windows despite the fact that I am not overly fond of Microsoft. Persistence however, led me to the Linux distro I am now using, and experience has proven that the earlier errors I suffered were my own lack thereof.
I would have joined the Ubuntu forums except for the fact that I don't find them very helpful. I've trolled quite a few answers off of this site, and found the advice to be more helpful.
I look forward to discussion and encourage everyone to remember that sometimes the short answer to a question is not enough. No matter how smart we think we are, sometimes the solutions need to be spelled out in dummy format to really get anything out of it.
Thanks.

I would just like to add my small vote in favour of this forum.

Yeah, it's a friendly and informative forum allright. And the answers
are often or more properly, usually, better than the official Ubuntu
forums. If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
