i have a desktop thats acouple years old with no power supply
i just read the specs on it
256mb ram
2.7ghz processor
40gb hd
etc.
i just noticed this processor is faster then the computer i have right now is
this computer isnt brand new and i dont think it cost over 800 dollars
how does it have 2.7ghz processor if
(1). its a cheap hp
(2). its not dual core
(3).its like 4-5 years old
im just wonderin why it could be so fast yet cheap and oldMicrosoft isn't evil, they just make really crappy operating systems.

It's probably a Pentium or Celeron. For several years during the late 90s and early 2000s Intel was convinced that the thing to do was try and get the highest clock speed on a processor, ignoring things like power consumption, heat dispersion, or front-side-bus speed. The CPU industry as a whole seems to be over that now (instead saying "More CORES is better!").
It's not that odd to see a relatively old, cheap machine with a nearly 3gHz processor. My guess is a Celeron or low-end P4.Registered Linux user #270181

for heat couldnt i just add in a couple fans and it would work better
im buying a power supply with more power than the one it came with stock so there wont be power issuesMicrosoft isn't evil, they just make really crappy operating systems.

It should still work fine, but there's more to game performance than just a speedy processor. You'll need to significantly boost your RAM (1-2GB) and get a beefy graphics card. You'll also need a larger harddrive if you plan on playing any newer games. Some newer games can take 5-10GB by themselves, not including your OS.
