    Mac OSX

i was thinking about buying a copy of an older mac OSX off ebay just to try it out.

but the system requirements for osx 10.1 are
    • Supported computers — Power Mac G3, G4, G4 Cube, iMac, PowerBook, or iBook
    • RAM required — 128 megabytes (unofficially 96 megabytes minimum)
    • Free hard drive space — 1.5 gigabytes
does this mean you cant install mac osx on a computer not made by apple???
Microsoft isn't evil, they just make really crappy operating systems.

Yep. It has to be an Apple computer especially for older MacOS versions, considering that they have been using PPC architecture for awhile. The most recent once can be installed on a PC with an Intel CPU and it only supports very very small range of hardware that is not produced by Apple.

No, it's not. There is a hardware switch in Apple's computers that allows it to run OS X. There are ways around that, but they're all illegal. The End User License Agreement for the Mac OS also specifically states that you must run it on Apple hardware.

I saw a CNET video on cnettv.com once on how to run OS X on a generic PC. Maybe you should look around there.
