    Who's gone HD yet?

Hey! Well, first off, if you want an HD-DVD drive (despite their being dead), grab an Xbox 360 HD-DVD player. They are now $50 while supplies last (as they are discontinued), and on top of getting the drive itself and the King Kong movie that comes with it, if you get it before the end of tomorrow (the 28th of Febuary) and fill out the appropriate stuff before the 31st of March, you can get five more HD-DVDs for free, totaling at six movies and the USB HD-DVD drive for $50. Once again, this is now officially a dead format, so it's not exactly a great maneuver, but I like dead language and technology. And I have a 360, so why not?

Anyways, I was just wondering who, if any, have gone to the new HD formats in any way, be it just a new shiny HDTV, or Blu-Ray, or whatnot; and if so, how (for instance, if you have a Blu-Ray, is it just a player or a PS3; if it's a TV, is it plasma or LCD... you get the idea.
    So, what is it?

Around this time last year I bought a Vizio VX32-L 32-inch 720p HDTV. It cost me around $800, but in the past year they've dropped to around $600. I watch primarily over-the-air HDTV.

Over the summer I bought both an upconverting Panasonic DVD-S52 regular DVD player (that hooks up with HDMI cables) and a Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player. I bought my HDMI cables from NewEgg.com for $8.50USD.

I got 5 free HD-DVDs and since then I've only bought 1 or 2 others (Transformers was one). Looks like I have some clearance sales to look forward to now that the format is dead.

i have a 40" sony 720p hdtv that I watch regular hd broadcast tv on, but I have a computer hooked up to it which I use to watch hd anime (this is MUCH more common for me)

i didn't want to buy into any hd-dvd or blu-ray yet until a winner was decided, and pretty much everything was coming out on the new format

Well, you can go out and buy yourself a Blu-Ray player then because once Walmart decided to carry Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD, the winner was decided. It's sad that that's the clincher but it looks like it's over for HD-DVD.

I haven't bought either and don't plan to as I don't buy enough DVD's to warrant the purchase of a new technology.

This was true, but is no longer the closing point. Toshiba and Microsoft have both discontinued all production, and I don't think anyone else was really in the market (of players, that is). I think all of Hollywood had pulled out some time before, anyways. And this is all without mention of Wikipedia now speaking of HD-DVD in complete past-tense now, so what more proof do you need? (this last part is a joke....)

I have a 40" Sony Bravia 1080p LCD TV, Sony Playstation 3 (for games and blu-ray), Toshiba HD-A30 for HD-DVD's and it makes a killer upconverting dvd player, and that is about it. I have quite a few HD-DVD's and Blu-Ray Discs.

One of the reasons I bought HD-DVD was Transformers. I had to have it.

I don't regret one bit buying both formats either. It isn't like they will stop playing now that Blu-Ray has won.

(Well, some older blu-ray players will have problems playing newer blu-ray disks, but that is another topic for another time.)

Well I've got the TV. Just waiting to buy the PS3 for Blue-Ray. All the talk in the tech world is the HD-DVD is pretty much dying a slow death so I think I'll avoid that.

    Glad I waited

This is a good point, and it's not stressed enough. My HD-A2 is an excellent upconverting regular DVD player that just happens to also play HD-DVDs. Sometimes folks act as though "losing the format war" means everyone's HD-DVD players will spontaneously combust or something. I plan to hold onto mine until it dies, which should give me more than my money's worth. In the meantime I can enjoy looking around for crazy deals on HD-DVD movies.
