Seductive technology
This definitely isn't meant as a free advert for a certain company, but I became interested in this concept phone by a particularly well known brand. I was blown away by the whole idea, so thought I'd post a link here.

One can imagine how such systems could lead to biological integration into the human body. I think that's where we'll eventually wind up anyway. Pretty amazing stuff fingal. Thanks for posting.

No way I'd wear that gizmo!
Of course, once we all become Borg and part of the Collective, we'll all be virtually in touch with each other anyway.oz

That's the big question isn't it? Will devices like this help or harm us? I have mixed feelings - the sci fi geek part of me likes it, but on the other hand I think devices like that could be used against us.
To Dan: Yes, I also thought about biological integration. That seems to be what we're heading for. Not sure I want Nokia to know what I really think about mobile phones though.I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it. - Pablo Picasso

Did I miss something? I mean, I didn't see anything about biotech, just nanotech. Of course, the two can and (accordingly) will intertwine, but I unless I overlooked something (which I'm completely capable of), that wasn't the topic. But on that topic, I think I would not mind having a wireless speaker implanted into my ear (hardly anything more than an earring), but I don't think I'm quite fond of the other possibilities like eye implants or $6 dollar man type stuff. Basically, I don't want the technology to replace what I am.
But about the new technology Fingal links to, that sounds pretty awesome (I want!). I really like the idea of nanotechnology, especially the conservation of energy and such that it offers. I really like the K.I.S.S. idea, and nanotechnology is like the epiphany of that. Instead of taking a chunk of stone and cutting away chunks (and trashing the extra), they build it from the very basic parts.

Edit: Just watched the video from the link --I swear I've seen this before! It was on a movie or something... I wanna say a kid's show. Anyone know what it is?Last edited by ryokimball; 03-01-2008 at 11:48 PM. Reason: watched the video

I for one wasn't under the impression fingal had established a topic, but was rather sharing this link for our reading, learning and impressions. I stated:
I think one can. If I share that thought with my friend fingal, I'm sure he won't jump to the conclusion that his thread is being hijacked. One can imagine how such systems could lead to biological integration into the human body.

I don't think I would want my phone knowing more about my surroundings than me... That's a little to Sci-Fi for me at this point.
Interesting stuff, though.Jay

Fingal, I recently read an article about nanotechnology being put into human beings to help with medical problems, ( My fast fading memory for example. )
However comments were made about the articles ( plus mankinds history of misuse of science ) implications and dangers including the suppresion of individual free thought and individual preferences.
Spy agencies putting nanobots in a diplomat's coffee to turn him into a spy and those sort of tangents.
How far off in the future can a " Borg Collective of Humanity " be???

Thanks for all the contributions to this thread. I tried to write a thoughtful response to some of the comments on here, but unfortunately I went and lost it somewhere! Not to worry - I just hope we don't end up living in a society dictated by little nano-bots; the potential for abusing this kind of technology seems quite high.

We are gonna need this sort of technology if we're to survive the robot uprising :o
