    Internet Download/Upload Speeds

Hey guys, I'm just wondering how many of you actually achieve the internet download/upload speeds that you are paying for through your ISP, and if so, how often you get those speeds?

I've found that it's rarely for me. Is it any better for you?

Given how far I live from the exchange I never get the full 8mb
I pay for. Hell, I barely get 3.5mb. Not surprising given the technology.

Still I think back to the days of dial up when I was paying the same as
I am now. It doesn't seem so bad then

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

I pay for 3MBps/384Kbps but I get closer to 2.4Mbps/240Kbps. It was great when I first got it down here. When I lived in Dublin it was great and I even got huge bursts at the start of downloads (up to 8Mbps at the start). When I moved to the sticks I was one of the first here to get DSL and it ran fine but I think the contention is going to hell so I'm losing out. It's still pretty fast though.

Thanks for the votes and comments, guys.

I usually do all my connection speed tests from here.

Is there someplace that you think is better, or perhaps more accurate?

I never get "advertised" speeds, I pay for 5/512 but I usually get 4/480. I use the same speed test too ozar, but I like to try more than one test, I also use Speakeasy - Speed Test
Not that I think it's any better, but multiple tests give better results.

I use both of those test sites, and for the same reason... to compare for accuracy. So far it looks like I'm the lucky one here. I pay for 10 down and 1 up. I get anywhere from 9.5 to 9.9 down and i always have around 975 k up.

    meanwhile at the CO

Residential lines cost around 60 dollars for 7Mbps

T1 around 1500 a month, plus engineering cost

At work they made it clear, residential lines are not our priority is not like the feds are going to do something about it.

    It's sad.

I have a connection thats up to 20Mbps and usually our download rates are about 1.5 to 2 MBps. In a few months its being upgrade to 50 Mbps, so that will be pretty cool for streaming media.

When I used satellite internet I paid out the rear for 1.5Mbps and ended up with 700-800Kbps most days. During peak hours that went down to 100-300Kbps.

Right now I'm using my g/f's cellular internet plan, which theoretically goes up to 1.4Mbps and usually tops out around 1MBps. I don't consider that to be an unreasonable price/feature ratio. Oh, and the cellular modem doesn't seem to have "peak hours."
