Well, I Did It: Windows Partition Wiped off Laptop!!

That's right! I am making the big push to mainstream Linux! Primary Partition is now Linux Mint 4.0-KDE Edition (I'll never get rid of that or PCLOS; two favorite distros). The other partition, much smaller, is now Mandriva 2008.1

Now, many of you remember the problems I had with Mandriva. So you're probably wondering why I am going back. Two reasons: 1) This is my laptop, not my desktop. 2) Mandriva 2008 was on my desktop. I am hoping that 2008.1 won't have the same problems (but I'm not getting my hopes up too much).

As for my thread about being unable to decide on a particular Linux, I think I am finally coming to an answer. PCLOS and Linux Mint take the cake, hands down. So they will be my two from here on out. However, I have always liked Mandriva. So I can't part ways with that. It probably falls in line at third. Ubuntu and OpenSuSE are so appealing to me that I don't mind dual and triple booting into them on my Linux box, but not using as ofter as the other three.

So to make this crazy thread, that probably only makes sense my own mind, follow some sort of reasoning: I am settling into my distros of choice very nicely. The new configuration is as follows:

    Desktop 1:
    Windows XP

    Desktop 2:
    PCLinuxOS 2008 MiniMe; triple-booting:
    Ubuntu 7.10
    OpenSuSE 10.3

Note: Windows box and Linux box connected to KVM Switch

    Laptop:
    LinuxMint 4.0-KDE Edition
    Mandriva 2008.1

    2 GB USB Pen Drive:
    BackTrack 2.0
    Using Linux since June 2007
    Distros: Mint 12
    SPECS: AMD Atholon 64 X2 5400+, 2GB RAM, GeForce 8800 GTS

    Technology transmitted diseases

For me that's not an option, like I say

Windows is like gonorrhea, get all the treat you want but it will never go away.

    By the way congrats.

I agree, there are still reasons to keep Windows kicking around. That's why I will never get rid of it off Desktop 1. However, since it is there, there's no need to have it anywhere else. =)

I run XP Pro in a Virtual Machine (VirtualBox) to access my Zune and my Blackberry Desktop Manager.

Believe it or not, the virtual install runs at native speeds. Since I don't like Vista at all, and don't have a copy of XP 64, this is about my only choice considering I have 8 GB of RAM.

see, i don't have that option. however, mint runs so beautifully on my laptop, and now that i have install iceWM, i can use wine to do what i need to do on a windows machine. especially a few of my favorite video games. =D
