Even though these "which distro" questions are generally very vague (kind of like yours), you at least have it narrowed down to Slackware, or one of it's derivatives.

In this case, I picked Vector Linux since it'll have some more things configured for you by default (like X) than pure Slackware. I've tried Zenwalk a very long time ago, it's nice and all but Vector is more polished, in my opinion. Vector also has some nice GUI tools missing in Slackware, and Zenwalk (back when I used it at least).

whats vector's standard gui? im kind of partial to kde. but i can learn any of them again my main issues ar easy to start up (I know all slack derivitives are easy to configure once i know what im doing) and laptop compatability. i want to finally get rid of windows!
and are there other slack derivitives?

It depends! It's either XFCE or KDE (like Slackware) depending on which version you download. I just checked a few seconds ago and appearantly the website was hacked, so you might not be able to download Vector. Zenwalk uses XFCE.

I've gotta go for the original here, I like the fact that it's basically unconfigured; lets me start from scratch without having to undo someone elses setup.

Can you narrow down your question?? What exactly do you want to know??
I know Slackware and Vector, bot as servers and as desktops.... although I know neither on elaborate systems. I know Zenwalk from running it on a 450Mhz once. I didn't like it much in the same sense that I don't like DSL or chocolate ice cream. Not because it's bad but because I expect different things.

Maybe if you explain what you want, then it's easier to help you.

Vector, without question. Only Lisa I don't really know about. I've been reading, but I never deployed it in an environment.

But Vector 5.9 is 99.999999999999999% compatible with Slackware 12.0, so if it works on Slackware, it works on Vector.

I gotta go with Slackware on this one. Admittedly, I have little experience with Vector or Zen... But Slack just seems more robust to me.

And in *my* case, more fun to break!
