need for linux

Why is that software companies want people who are capable of working in linux platform?
in what way linux is advantageous to a software engineer? is it just tat linux is bit more customizable and offers better security or is there more to it?http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ima...s/confused.gif

Now most of the Companies are looking for the Cost cutting. May be this drived them to look for linux people. Anyway there is not doubt about better security, and lot more to do.
