It may be Easter, but unfortunately, I'm still coding, it really is that busy at the
moment. I aim to start working on my own little project, but first I need to get
to grips with the framework I intend to use...

Busy, busy busy...

HAHAHAHAHA.... Amen, brother! You know, I really don't hate windows..... wait! This needs to go somewhere else.

Oh Man - good as Linux Mint is, on my box it has just suffered the ignomy of being overwritten by (Debian-based) Studio64.

In fact, Distro Tart that I am, I have been making comparisons. My HDD is a real scrum.
sda5 - Gentoo in Enlightenment flavour
sda6 - LFS
sda7 - ex-Mepis7.0 /home
sda8 - PCLinuxOS - which has the booter
sda9 - Debian Etch 4.0 in Xfce4 flavour
sda10 - Ex Mint, now Studio64
sda11 - ZenWalk
sda12 - Vector Linux
sda13 - SUSE 10.3
sda14 - virgin reiserfs

There was so much about Mint that was great, but for me it was Ubuntu feeling Windows-ish.

Well, I have been using Linux Mint for a couple of days now and I have to say that I am very impressed.
I have now tried distros in the Redhat and Fedora family, in the Mandriva family and I have tried several
distros in the Slackware family and in the Ubuntu family. Along with PC Linux OS, Linux Mint must be the
most polished distro I have ever used.

The setup process was painless and in use it has been nearly flawless. There was an issue with the
Guard dog firewall blocking all access to the internet, but as I am behind a hardware firewall, I simply
uninstalled that.

Booting up takes less time than a really quick thing and if you like all the funky 3D effects, and lets be
honest here, who doesn't? You will be pleased to know that they install really easily. I have an NVidia
card and the drivers installed through Envy. There is also an option to install the ATI drivers.

I have installed Mint on my main desktop machine which has a wired network connection so I can't
comment on how it works with wireless cards. Once I sorted out the firewall issue, the network has
been admirably fast especially as I use ethernet over mains which can be a bit laggy but saves on
wiring.

The sound card and DVD Writer all worked out of the box. The sound was a bit choppy at first, but
turning down the levels to about 50% sorted that out. I understand the choppiness can affect any
distro so we wont count that against Mint

I prefer Linux Mint to PC Linux OS because it is ultimately based on Debian which means I can find my
way around from the command line.
